Stu-Bart Nitwit: French Firefighting Cyborg

Once again we got to work with an enthusiastic group of Year 3s from Octopus Class in Beaminster St Mary’s Academy on creating an unforgettable character. The session was packed with imagination, collaboration, and plenty of unexpected twists. Together, the group created the extraordinary Stu-Bart Nitwit — a French human/cat/cyborg hybrid firefighter with a flair for the dramatic. Every great character needs a villain, and the children didn’t disappoint, inventing the formidable gangster boss Mr Fatface to act as his nemesis.

Brought to life by the brilliant illustrations of Jasmine Baker, Stu-Bart is a an exciting addition to our pantheon of characters that might appear in any story at any time. Flawed, heroic and both emotionally and biologically complicated, Stu-Bart Nitwit is a francophile action hero with a heart of gold (or at least gold leaf).

It was fantastic to see the children so engaged, sharing ideas and building something brilliantly original as a team. Once Stu-Bart had been fully formed, the group then went on to create a whole host of other original characters, as we continue our mission to create more and more inhabitants of The Town of Dreams & Nightmares.

Watch this space as the population of this odd town grows…
