Party Planners - “On Politics and Potatoes” is officially launched!
You just don’t expect to stumble into the revolution on a dark, rainy night in Axminster.
Libraries have always been the petri dishes for political ideology and last night an extraordinary group of young writers gathered to celebrate the launch of their new book, “On Politics and Potatoes - How to Start a Political Party and Change the World”. The book is our latest publication in collaboration with the students of Axe Valley Academy in Axminster and it’s an absolute banger. The book is, in essence, a ‘how to…’ manual for young people to get engaged, get involved and get serious about using the political system to make a difference, start up your own political party and get on with changing the world.
Of course, being a Bank of Dreams & Nightmares publication, it’s not all work, work, work…there are flights of fancy, political fiction, speeches, questionnaires, fist pumping calls to action and sensible, reasoned arguments about force-feeding families potatoes. You know…the usual.
To help us in this mammoth undertaking, we called in some experts. Harry Vincent has previously worked as a speech writer for the Labour Party and his workshop on crafting compelling speeches was brilliant. Our thanks go to him, and also to journalist, Rob Kemp whose insight into the use, abuse and co-dependecy of the press and politicians, made for such a fantastic workshop and a great springboard for some excellent writing. The students were supported in their writing, their voting and their public speaking by our incredible team of volunteer Writing Mentors: Raja, Ambs, Valerie, Jon, Denise and Lizzie, all gave up their time to work with these young authors and politicos - and the result is this brilliant book!
