“I Can’t Moo-ve”. Bank Manager’s visit thrown into Udder chaos

Oh the relief!

When the grumpy Bank Manager announced he was going to be coming in to visit us and watch us work with a team of Year 4 pupils at Beaminster St Mary’s school last week, we were, to say the least, a little nervous. I mean, no-one likes having the boss looking over their shoulder. So, when the phone rang and it turned out they couldn’t make it we were secretly quite pleased. And when they told us that they couldn’t make it because they were stuck in the middle of a herd of cows, we were quite amused. But when they tasked us with coming up with a plan to rescue them – well… we were delighted.

And the Year 4s rose to the challenge like a seasoned mountain rescue team. Before too long, we had a comprehensive set of instructions for escaping the herd that even the Bank Manager could follow. The class were absolutely brilliant!

And then, as if they hadn’t worked hard enough, the team wrote individual sets of clear concise instructions that covered everything from “How to…ride a horse” to, “How to…build your own Bloop” and “How to… use an ejector seat”! Nothing short of the Ultimate Survival Guide!

The team were supported in their instructional text writing by our team of Marvellous Mentors – so, Lizzie and Liz, our huge thanks!

The whole thing was captured by our guest illustrator, the wonderful Lucy Wooler, who helped the Bank Manager out with some fantastic illustrations to accompany each step. Soooo much clearer than flat-pack furniture instructions!

Finally, a massive thank you to Mr Marklew and all the staff at Beaminster St Mary’s - it really is a wonderful place to be.
